Kite Runner blog 16
After reading the first couple chapters of Kite Runner, I think of East of Eden. I feel like the plot is already similar. One of the kids, although Hassan isn't Amir's brother, feels under-appreciated by his father. In this story, it is Amir. Hassan is Amir's servant, and Amir refuses to call him a friend. Very soon we find out that Amir is a coward, but he badly wants his dad to accept him. Amir also loves reading and soon finds out he also loves writing. He wants to continue writing stories, but his dad dislikes the idea. His dad has always been a "manly man" playing sports and taking home 1st place, and Amir is desperate to prove himself.
